So, you have questions about the Dance Gala? We know that navigating all of this new information can be overwhelming. We are here to help! Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions surrounding the Dance Gala from what it is to when it is! We are hoping that this information will help to answer any questions you may have.
1. What is Dance Gala? Dance Gala is our end of season dance recital. The Dance Gala is a way for us to celebrate your dancer and their hard work. Dancers that participate in the Dance Gala are introduced to the performing aspect of dance which can help to foster a sense of pride, self-esteem and self accomplishment. Ultimately, the Dance Gala is a special way for us to culminate the season with a live performance and celebrate each dancer and their accomplishments! In addition to a dancer’s class dance(s), all dancers will participate in a finale as well.
2. When is the Dance Gala? Dance Gala 2023 is scheduled for June 2nd-4th with our in studio dress rehearsal happening the last week of classes in May. Our tech rehearsal will be held at West Boca High School on May 31st and June 1st. Stay tuned for more information regarding Dance Gala 2023, tech rehearsal and our in-studio dress rehearsal process including specific information regarding your dancer’s class(es).
3. Where is the Dance Gala? Dance Gala 2023 will be held at West Boca High School. West Boca High School- 12811 Glades Rd, Boca Raton, FL 33498
4. What is the in-studio dress rehearsal and where is it held? The in-studio dress rehearsal is an opportunity for your dancer to practice their Gala dances in costume before they take the stage for Dance Gala 2023. The in-studio dress rehearsal is held at That’s Dancing during your dancer’s regularly scheduled class time. More detailed information to follow as the Dance Gala approaches.
5. What is the tech rehearsal and where is it held? The tech rehearsal is an opportunity for your dancer to get on stage and practice their Gala dance(s) before the Dance Gala takes place. The tech rehearsal is held at West Boca High School and is closed to observers. Dancers will wear dance attire and bring any necessary shoes to the tech rehearsal. More detailed information to follow as the Dance Gala approaches.
6. Why is it important for my dancer to participate? The Dance Gala is a great way for your child to showcase their talents and all of the hard work they have put into this art form. Performing helps dancers build confidence in a positive and non-judgmental environment while offering a safe space to express themselves. Through dance, performers can focus, and process and release their emotions in a way that is helpful for managing mental health. Even our youngest dancers benefit from performing in front of their family members and friends!
7. What will my dancer wear? Dancers will wear their class costume for the in studio dress rehearsal and the Dance Gala. Dancers do not need to wear their costume to the tech rehearsal. Dancers should wear dance attire for the tech rehearsal and have the appropriate shoes for their class dances. • BTC dancers- tan tap shoes • BT dancers- pink ballet shoes • BTJ dancers- tan jazz shoes • YDP Hip Hop- black sneakers including the sole (no white) • YDP Acro- bare feet If you need to purchase the correct shoes for your dancer, here is the link to our online store. We carry tan tap shoes, pink ballet shoes, and tan jazz shoes. Tights will be included with BTC, BT and BTJ costumes. 8. How much is the Dance Gala costume fee and what does it include? The Dance Gala costume fee is $100 per costume and will be auto drafted from your account on 12/03. This fee includes your dancer’s class costume and any accessories required. Tights are included with BTC, BT, and BTJ costumes.
9. What does the Gala participation fee include and how much is it? The Gala Participation Fee is $50 and includes a digital program, a participation medal, and a digital download of your dancer’s performance, as well as, covering fees for additional security and sanitation at the offsite venue. The Dance Gala Participation fee will be auto drafted from your account on January 15th.
10. Do we need to purchase tickets for Dance Gala 2023? Yes, every audience member will need a ticket to attend Dance Gala 2023. More information regarding Dance Gala 2023 ticket sales including cost and where to purchase will be sent out via email closer to the Dance Gala.
11. Who will chaperone my dancer backstage? Our Young Dancer Program dancers are chaperoned backstage by backstage volunteers and That’s Dancing faculty members. Dancers are never left unattended and the backstage chaperones along with That’s Dancing faculty members and our Student Ambassadors, will make sure that your dancer makes it to the backstage area in time to perform. Dancers are then escorted back to their dressing room where they will wait to line-up for the Finale. Dancers can be signed out after the finale at the designated sign in/sign out area. Keeping your dancer safe backstage is of the utmost importance to us, therefore, no parents or guardians are permitted backstage unless they have a backstage volunteer pass for that particular show. The doors to the backstage area remain locked for the entirety of the show. If you are interested in volunteering backstage, please keep an eye on your email for access to the volunteer sign-up link.
12. What do I need to do to help my dancer prepare? Encouraging your dancer to practice at home is great way to help them prepare! Having family members watch as an audience is also helpful. Instructional downloads of your child’s dance will also be available for purchase in our online store on our website (applies to Young Dancer Program only). We highly encourage parents to purchase this digital download to help your dancer practice at home and get them excited about the Dance Gala! Digital Downloads will be made available for purchase in Spring 2023.
